Despite the reputation I have among my friends as being a "jazz lover" or whatever, I only went to my first Dublin gig in a year or so at the Jazz Kitchen on Tuesday night. I bumped into loads of old friends from the Newpark days, and it was nice to catch up. The music was great too, although people need to learn to clap after solos. I cheered at the end of one of the sets, and a girl from the next table turned around and looked at me like I was a lunatic. She was good looking, too.
Speaking of gigs, I have my very first solo show coming up in a few weeks. During the break I took from writing here, I recorded a CD of solo bass music and put it in a few shops around town. One of the shops was Tower Records on Wicklow Street, so I was able to get an instore slot for the 14th of July.
For those of you who are suitably inclined, you can find a Facebook event page here with videos and streaming audio and all that kinda stuff. Come down if you feel like it.
